This blog is all about having a creative space for me to share my love of cooking and eating by journalling my thoughts, creative/ artistic reflections and responses to food, art, culture, and writing, and showcasing recipes I’ve created and useful tidbits of info that I’ve learned about food over the years.
I am a passionate vegetarian cook! I’ve been cooking since I was 14 or so (not counting sticking my fingers in doughs, or peeling roasted peppers since I was a child) mostly in order to recreate foods that I loved to be vegetarian so I could continue to eat them.
I have a soulful/comfort food style of cooking and a familiarity with many international types of cooking, methodologies, and ingredients. I was vegetarian for 14 years (vegan for some of them), I’m occasionally pescatarian after living in South Korea I realize the economic privilege of choice and importance of identity building cultural influences and accessibility in food choices which is responsible for that flexibility to fish products on occasion, but this blog represents my predominate diet which is vegetarian and vegan.
My culinary skills and knowledge are self-taught. I have a fine arts degree, an education degree and a masters degree in Interdisciplinary Studies but over the years I have dipped my toe in the professional culinary realm working in specialty foods retail, staging and working part-time for chefs here and there, and teaching. I currently teach food and beverage courses in colleges and high schools and have been teaching cooking for over 8 years now.
Cooking for me is a creative expression, as well as stress relief. I also love art and music and express myself with both, (and in as many other ways as is possible) to make art and life come together as synonymous as is possible.
Thanks for stopping by Soulveggies, hope you enjoy!
